On April 25,1976 Divide Garden Club was organized and federated by twelve women living on the Georgetown Divide who had a passion for gardening and community. Charter Members; Virginia Bratton, Elaine Cole, Georgia Harris, Dianna Kinney, Teddy Kirchner, Vera Maakestad, Mary O'Donnell (Hoblit), Alice Orr, Estelle Smith, Norma Townzen, Marjorie Tuft, and Evelyn True planted the seeds that would grow into a rich history full of plant sales, flower shows, community projects, informative meetings, and so much more.
Since its inception DGC has had community and camaraderie at the heart of the club. For many decades Divide Garden Club has created programs and projects to benefit the Georgetown Divide Community such as memorial trees planted in Georgetown Park, the Heritage Rose Project in Georgetown Cemetery, and the handmade holiday boughs that bring the spirit of the season to Main St. Georgetown every December, to name just a few.
Divide Garden Club is truly an example of how the passion and organizational skills of a few people can blossom into a beautiful legacy for future gardeners and conservationists.
